Hart Student Qualifies for National Math Competition

Congratulations to 8th-grader Akshay Ravikumar, whose outstanding math skills helped him qualify for the USA Junior Math Olympiad.

Akshay is among 235 students nationwide at or below the 10th-grade level who qualified for the competition. He qualified by taking exams targeted at high school sophomore-level math skills. The only other Pleasanton student who qualified is Eugene Chen of Harvest Park Middle School.

This is the first year a junior olympiad challenge has been offered. Previously, students competed in the more challenging USA Math Olympiad. While open to all students, it is targeted at high school juniors and seniors.

This week, Akshay will take further exams to determine if he is an olympiad finalist. There will be 12 junior winners and 12 honorable mentions nationwide.

Congratulations, Akshay, for this incredible honor!
