Community Read: The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling

Thanks to the generous support of our PTSA and all those families who supported our annual Scholastic Book Fair, Hart has been able to purchase a copy of the book, The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling,  for every Hart student and staff member. Beginning the week of February 1st, students will read and discuss the book with their ACCESS class each Wednesday, culminating with a virtual Zoom author visit with Dusti Bowling on March 31st. We encourage parents/guardians to read the book along with their children and engage in conversations about this timely story.

Students will receive their copy of the book on the following days: 8th grade - January 26th, 1-3 p.m., 6th grade - January 27th, 1-3 p.m., 7th grade - January 28th, 1-3 p.m. Books will be distributed by their English teachers outside the gym entrance by the front parking lot on Willow Road. In order to improve traffic flow, we are separating pickup times by last name alpa each day - 1-2 p.m. Last names A-L, 2-3 p.m. last names M-Z.

Students will also receive a student created bookmark and reading schedule for the novel. Please support your child’s reading by encouraging them to keep up with the reading timeline and come prepared to discuss the novel in their Wednesday ACCESS classes.

Finally, we are purposely focusing on reading hard copies of this novel, in an effort to limit screen time. The value of holding a book in hand is sometimes overlooked, so we are pleased that our partners in the community, PTSA, have supported this event through their funding. Thank you for supporting this exciting event!
