History Teacher Honored

Congratulations to Anne Everton for getting the middle school Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award from California's National History Day.

"I feel honored, but extremely humble as there are so many very giving teachers who should have received this," Everton said.

Everton was nominated for the honor by Alameda County's history and social science coordinator. Teachers must have at least six years of experience as a National History Day teacher, plus have three letters of recommendation.

"I have learned so much from my students when they do their History Day projects," she said. "I get very excited when my students become intent on learning about their topic, curious to find out more. That is the best."

Everton will represent California at the National History Day awards ceremony in June in College Park, Maryland. Everton will not attend the national event, but she will be entered as California's representative.

Congratulations, Mrs. Everton!
