Student Chosen for Elite Camp

Congratulations to 7th-grader McKenna Moura for being awarded a full scholarship to attend the elite Tech Trek summer camp at Stanford.

Tech Trek is a science and math camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in female students going into the 8th grade. The camp features hands-on activities in math, science and related fields.

McKenna was nominated for the camp by teacher Cristina Wetklow, along with four other Hart students. Students from Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore applied for the scholarship, worth several hundred dollars.

Forty-three tri-valley students made it to the interview process for the scholarship.

Victoria Drake, this area's Tech Trek coordinator, said she was "tremendously impressed with their intellect, maturity and oral skills." While the final choice was "extremely difficult," Drake said, McKenna was ultimately chosen for the scholarship.

McKenna will spend a full week at Stanford, living on campus while taking part in the Tech Trek camp.

Congratulations, McKenna!
