Welcome Rally & Walk-A-Thon

Dozens upon dozens of enthusiastic students turned out after school Tuesday to be a part of Hart's hallowed history by taking part in the first-ever Welcome Rally and Walk-A-Thon.

More than 150 students in all grades were welcomed by Principal Terry Conde before hitting the track for the walk-a-thon. Students raised money for the PE department by getting friends and family to sponsor them. There was no set number of times students had to trek around the track, though most kids were having such a blast that they walked several laps. One particularly exuberant boy racked up an amazing 15 laps. Hart's peppy cheerleaders were on hand to cheer on walkers as they ran, jog or walked around the track.

The goal of the Welcome Rally and Walk-A-Thon was two-fold. The first goal was simply to welcome everyone to the new school year and foster a sense of camaraderie among students. The second goal was to raise a few much-needed bucks for the PE department. The 52 students who raised money brought in more than $1,600. That money will be used to fund PE supplies and projects throughout the school year.

After students wrapped up the walk-a-thon, which was held on a blessedly mild day, they were treated to juicy hot dogs and bratwursts, sweet fruit cups and plenty of good ol' H2O.

A big thank you to Art Shields of ConAgra Foods for donating the hot dogs and condiments; Emkay Food Sales of Dublin for donating the bratwursts; and Dole for donating the fruit cups.

Special thanks to Hart's devoted PE teachers for working the grill; several Hart teachers who helped with food prep or keeping track of laps; leadership and cheerleaders for their volunteer work and PFA parents for organizing the event.

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported this fun and positive event for our school and our students. Go Huskies!
