Hart Cheerleaders at Walk

Hart's dedicated cheerleaders gave up their Sunday morning this past weekend to cheer on walkers at the Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Oakland Zoo.

The cheer squad was invited to cheer walkers as they entered the zoo and walked laps around the park. The cheerleaders were stationed at the zoo entrance, cheering on walkers as they started the event.

"They were happy to do something for others," cheer coach Nancy Jefferies said. "They jump at the opportunity to be together as a team. It was a great team-building opportunity for the girls."

More than 1,500 people showed up for the walk, which benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

"I was thrilled to have Hart represented at the walk," said Zoe Francis, former Hart parent and JDRF family team leader for the walk. "The girls did a fantastic job, showing just the right amount of enthusiasm to cheer on the walkers without being too loud to startle the zoo animals. They did a fantastic job."

The Hart cheerleaders tailored their school cheers to include chants in support of walkers, JDRF and finding a cure for diabetes.

"I was very proud of them," Jefferies said. "I was very proud of the way they conducted themselves. I thought they represented themselves, the school and the city of Pleasanton very well. They really enjoyed being out there. As the morning went on, I could tell they were having more fun. The crowd responded well to them."
