Congratulations to sixth-graders Alexandrea Sweitzer, Brian Zamora and Weylin Nicholson Bruce for being chosen for the College Bound Scholars Program.
Las Positas College and the LPC Foundation in Livermore sponsor this program that identifies first-generation college students and mentors them throughout their school years, ultimately providing more than $1,000 in scholarship money.
An elite 30 students from Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore are chosen each school year to be part of this unique program. Each student will be paired with a college or community mentor who will work with the students from sixth grade to college entrance. Not only will the student get support, but the entire family can take part in activities and programs designed to show that college is a realistic and attainable goal.
Academically at-risk students who may benefit from this program are recommended by school administrators. Students and their parents then go through an application and interview process before the wide pool of applicants is narrowed to the 30 finalists.
Each student will have $1,000 invested in their name and receive the principal and interest in six years to help with college expenses.
Congratulations to Alexandrea, Brian and Weylin for being chosen for this incredible opportunity!
